The weather in Gitombo has been quite hot with blue skies but very dusty, until mid-February, when we experienced intermittent rainfall. This has been a welcome blessing, more so with the water challenges in the whole community.
At present, we have 233 students enrolled across ECDE, Primary, and Junior School. The three-day midterm break started on Tuesday, February 24th following the midterm examinations, which were conducted successfully, with the children achieving good results.
Staffing Updates
- Financial Management Training: Staff members participated in a financial management training on one afternoon, February 24th, facilitated by TAI Sacco. The training focused on personal financial literacy, budgeting, savings culture, and responsible financial planning. This is expected to improve staff financial stability and reduce situations of noticeable stress and conflict due to unneeded debt.
- Staff team-building event took place on Wednesday, February 25th. The goal was to improve staff morale, collaboration, and communication.
Other Updates
Birthdays: We had an exciting birthday and other celebration events for the month. Our children have continued to enjoy this monthly event, in which they look forward to being celebrated.
Shoes: The school received the remaining batch of the shoes donated in January by the Adamis family.
Counseling: We are gradually working on this much-needed service. Recently, we have had emerging challenges regarding the boy–girl relationships in Junior School. After meeting and listening to the affected boys and girls, I realized that our children have matured but are faced with normal-but-difficult physical feelings! They need help! The teachers have done a phenomenal job working with groups: Male teachers with boys and female teachers with the girls, providing age-appropriate support and mentorship.
Sanitary Supplies: We have been providing the girls in Junior School with sanitary pads as needed.
