It has been raining heavily in Gitombo, and indeed everywhere in the country; these are long rains, which start in the month of March, but they began in February. This contradicts the weather pattern, but we looked at it as an act of God and as an answer to many prayers for rain. We thanked God for the rain as it solved our water crisis. We expected that the rain would continue through April, but it stopped during the first week of the month. We will let you know if they resume.
School Calendar: The school closed for the April holiday on March 31, and will resume on Monday, April 27. Building maintenance and planting are taking place while the children are away. The parents were expected to purchase printed holiday Homework Booklets for the students, as with all students at other schools, to facilitate revision during the April school break.
Academic: The PAAV teachers have made good progress in syllabus coverage across all grades, ensuring alignment with CBE (Competency-Based Education) curriculum objectives. A strong focus has been placed on reading with the purpose of inculcating a reading culture among our children, to achieve the literacy levels needed. The ECDE teachers are conducting lunch-time remedial sessions for learners who struggle with reading. Academic performance remains a priority. The school aims at maintaining high academic standards. Part of that goal is by obtaining examination papers from other schools for comparative purposes.
Parents Meeting: The Parents’ Meeting held on March 13, 2026, had high attendance. The goal of the meeting was to enlist the help of the parents in the education of their children and to inform them about some of the school developments and fundraising efforts. We informed them that we had given the children some proforma fundraising forms. Another crucial matter was about parental consent for the use of the children’s pictures on social media.

Graduation Ceremony: The 2025 PP2 learners’ graduation ceremony was held on March 13, 2026. This event is usually held in October as the school year ends, but it did not happen due to government guidelines on gatherings in schools during the third term exam season.

Government Evaluations of Teachers: These evaluations help to verify that the teachers are instructing the students according to the curriculum. The TSC (Teachers Service Commission) official who conducted the evaluation was pleased with PAAV Gitombo Community School because our teachers scored high marks.
