WHY THE WORK MATTERS

HOPE GITOMBO: Transforming Lives

At Hope Gitombo, every child and every family has a story, and many of those stories have been beautifully rewritten through the power of faith,  education, and community support. What began as a small effort to meet basic needs has grown into a life-changing mission that continues to uplift and empower. These are just a few of the lives that have been touched by the work happening in Gitombo village. We invite you to read their stories, be inspired, and see firsthand how hope, when put into action, creates a lasting difference for generations to come.

Risper Gathoni

My name is Risper Gathoni Kamau, a 29-year-old single mother of four children, three girls and one boy. My eldest are twins are in Grade 4, the others in Grade 2 and Kindergarten at PAAV Gitombo Community School.

I started working at PAAV Gitombo in February 2023 after my mother passed away. This opportunity has changed my life. I’ve met people from different parts of Kenya and learned how to relate to them. My job has improved my standard of living  and my position in the community. I am now able to provide for my children’s needs something I had been struggling with. Through Madam Wanji I accepted Christ as my Savior in October of 2024, and since then my walk with God has been good. My children attend Sunday school, which has increased their spiritual growth. They cherish the Bibles they received as a gift at our school closing day. On Sundays, I participate in the Pillars Group Bible study. This fellowship has greatly changed me.  I have experienced spiritual and mental growth and learned self-reliance and responsibility. The Bible study has also helped me live in peace and harmony with others, a significant achievement in my life.

My life has been difficult since I dropped out of school due to financial difficulties and family misunderstandings. I hope to go back to school in the future to become a teacher, a desire  I have shared with Madam Wanjiru. “Write the vision And make it plain on tablets, That he may run who reads it (Habakkuk 2:2). My prayer is for my children to excel in their studies and become valuable contributors to the nation and our community. I am happy and grateful to be part of PAAV-Gitombo School. May God bless all who help our school. Thank you.

Beth Njeri

My name is  Beth Njeri, and I am 32 years old. I am a single mother of four children who attend PAAV-Gitombo Community School. My children are in Grades 9, 7, 5 and kindergarten.

I started working at PAAV-Gitombo in 2023. My children attend Sunday School and that has helped them to be good children. I myself attend Pillars Bible Study, which help me to grow spiritually and have a Christian family. Before coming to PAAV-Gitombo, l did not have a good life, and had no hope. My life is different now since I gave my life to Christ.  I have hope in Jesus knowing that with God all things are possible (Matthew 19:26). I am trusting God for my  children to be educated so that they may help themselves and help other people in our communities and in the world. Since I am now employed I am able to feed my children and pay school fees slowly. I am so thankful to PAAV. My prayer for us is found in Psalm 125.

As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds his people both now and forevermore Psalm 125:2.

God bless PAAV and all who support us.
